Dr. Bryan Yorton, Department Head and Associate Professor of Philosophy, is the chair of the HSU Philosophy Program. He previously taught at several schools before coming to HSU, most recently serving as chair of the Religion and Philosophy Department, Honors Program Director, and Distinguished Professor of Religion at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

He holds a variety of degrees, including a master’s degree in humanities (in Philosophy of Religion) from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (in Philosophy) from The University of Texas in Austin.

Yorton’s scholarly efforts have focused on the role of imagination in religious and ethical beliefs and the writings of Soren Kierkegaard. He has a wide variety of academic interests outside of philosophy, including theology, history, literature, politics, psychology, and general science.

He is a member of the American Philosophical Association and has been active in the Society of Christian Philosophers.
