Brackett is a familiar name to longtime HSU fans and alumni. He played basketball for the Cowboys from 2004 to 2007 and has a deep passion for Hardin-Simmons. “I am so excited to come back and serve the institution that has given me so much,” said Brackett. “Ever since I came here as a player, I’ve been in love with HSU. It’s a place that changes lives, and I am a perfect example of that.” Brackett stood out as an undergraduate, displaying qualities needed to be a great head coach someday. He worked hard on and off the floor, communicated well, and became a respected leader. His energy and passion pushed him to overcome any obstacle that he faced. He has displayed that work ethic in the few short months he has been on the job. Facing a roster that had just two significant contributors from a year ago, he had to restock the teamwith players in short order. He hit the recruiting trail hard and had 20 players on campus by the time classes began in August. “I know how special Hardin-Simmons is,” said Brackett. “I try to show that every day to our players, when I am recruiting and as we get ready for the season. Everything is in place for us to be successful here. We are going to have a lot of new faces, but that doesn’t change mine or the team’s expectations.” Brackett is joined in Abilene by his wife Rachel ’08, who was a member of HSU’s 2006 Final Four Women’s Basketball team, and their two children Tyce (5) and Jolee (2). Brackett, who received her masters at the University of Texas at Arlington and assisted the school’s basketball team, now serves as an administrative assistant to Vice President for Student Life at HSU.
