is the same quality used in video boards at professional sporting venues across the United States. The board’s high lumens level allows it to be fully visible in broad daylight. “The addition of the video board has enhanced the game day experience for the HSU family. In the future, there are even more possibilities for us to use the video board to help promote the unique atmosphere that is game day at Shelton Stadium,” said John Neese, HSU Athletic Director. This new technology can also be used for live streaming purposes and displaying timely information at campus events, such as chapel, concerts, student events, and home or away sporting events. For example, a November movie night for students was planned for the stadium’s big screen. The biggest concern for online viewers is online buffering, therefore the new equipment was designed specifically to provide both the best in-person and online experiences. Kimber Beam ‘16, HSU’s Visual Media Manager, said the new equipment helps to increase the reach of HSU and get the word out about the University. “It allows parents, grandparents, and alumni, all of which are scattered nationally and internationally, the opportunity to view their student’s experience and successes here at HSU,” said Beam, whose team operates the truck. “It also allows prospective students the opportunity to have a glimpse of what life is like at HSU and at all of the different events and groups they have the opportunity to be a part of.” The new video board has generated much excitement among students, faculty, and staff. More than 40 students attended an initial training and information session to be part of the video board and production truck crew. The marketing department later hired about 14 new students as part of the regular crew. The University is also looking towards opening up advertising on the video board with the help of HSU alumni and supporters and potentially using the video board to promote other sports and events on campus. The video board donation will serve a useful function to the school and may encourage other donors to contribute to other athletic and academic programs at HSU. It allows HSU to tell the story of what God is doing at this University to the rest of the world. —Krista Wester (’20) RANGE RIDER | FALL-WINTER 2017 19
