found to dwell there.” As he wrote in a letter to

First Baptist Abilene’s Rev. R.T. Hanks in 1890,

“that’s what this college is for, to raise up foreign

missionaries as well as home missionaries.”

Many of the international students who study in

Logsdon plan to return to their home countries

to spread the gospel, if they can. Others, such as

the refugee students, plan to minister from their

unique perspective here in the United States.

Second, the Bible tells God’s people to welcome

the “foreigner.”

Dr. Robert Ellis, dean of Logsdon Seminary, said

he has noticed in several of his classes, such as Old

Testament, the refugees enrich the classroom for

all students.

“They are bringing their experiences, so we

can think about the exile in the Old Testament,

through the eyes of refugees, who have themselves

been exiled,” he said.
