42 RANGE RIDER | FALL-WINTER 2017 When questioned about the greatest commandment, Jesus’ response was direct and poignant. “To love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind … and the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” These greatest commandments are carried out time and time again as our donors invest in the lives of our students. Most often people think of a gift of cash when supporting a cause, but we have found many of our alumni and friends can accomplish more than they ever imagined through the use of a planned gift. You may think that a planned gift sounds complicated or is only for those with large estates. It is true that there are often significant advantages available through planned gifts for wealthier individuals, but sound estate planning can benefit everyone. Planned gifts can make it possible for individuals to provide for their loved ones, receive tax deductions, avoid paying capital gains on some investments, and even receive income for their gift … all while investing in the University and our students. To learn what type of planned gift fits your needs just type “planned giving Hardin Simmons University” in your browser or go to http://plannedgiving.hsutx.edu , and learn how you can leave a lasting legacy at HSU. If you prefer to visit with one of our development officers, please call us at (325) 670-1260 for more information. ADVANCEMENT Mike Hammack (‘85 BA/’89 MBA) Vice President for Advancement The Connally Missions Center was made possible through several gifts, including the lead gift from Dr. Virginia Boyd Connally, a 1933 graduate and a dedicated supporter of missions for whom the building is named. The purpose of the Missions Center is to make students, faculty, and staff aware of missions and to challenge them to be involved in reaching out to the world.
