HSU Office Computers
SPSS and the Adobe suite are available for installation on campus computers upon request at no extra charge to the department. To request a package or software, e-mail the Help Desk (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the package(s) or software you would like installed along with the best time to contact you. A list of available Adobe Packages are located below.
Microsoft Office 365 is now available free for all current students, faculty and staff at Hardin-Simmons University.
Discounted SoftwareVarsityBuys has a wide selection of discounted software available for current students, faculty and staff. Windows 10 is also free for current students via VarsityBuys.
The Help Desk has a limited quantity of loaner equipment available for faculty and staff.

Many PC and printing issues can be resolved by powering the PC and Printer off, waiting 10-15 seconds and then powering them back on.
Toner/ink for all HSU printers is now being shipped directly to you from Hewlett Packard through the HSU Post Office.
If you have a locally attached printer, please **call Hewlett Packard (HP) and request toner/ink when your printer indicates that you need to order.
For network printers, HP should automatically ship toner/ink to the designated person. You can **call HP if you do not receive the toner/ink before it is needed and they will ship it to you.
**Call Hewlett Packard at 800-261-0291. HP will ask you for the printer ID number from the Blue sticker that was previously affixed to the printer.

If your printer does not have one of these stickers on it, please email details about the printer (Location, Model etc.) email@example.com.
Please watch for the shipments from HP and store them near the printer when they arrive.

Empty toner cartridges can be shipped back to HP using the Return Shipping Label that comes in the box with the new toner cartridge. Look for the recycle packet that reads “HP Planet Partners”.
Empty ink cartridges can be placed in an approved recycling bin for ‘Plastics’.
VPN + Remote Desktop allows you to access programs and files on your office computer from off-campus.
1. Prepare Your Office Computer (Windows)
Obtain your computer name. Click on Start | Computer. The information is a string of letters and numbers located on the bottom left corner of the window. (Example: EDUC-AH122-01S). Your computer will also need to be turned on for Remote Desktop to work. Restart before you take off and leave it at the CTRL+ALT+DEL / Logon screen.
2. Prepping your Home Computer
Make sure your home computer has current and up to date Antivirus software installed.
Download Cisco AnyConnect: To check if Cisco AnyConnect is installed, use the Search at the bottom of the “Start” menu and search for Cisco AnyConnect.
If it is not installed, go to https://remotevpn.hsutx.edu and login with your username and password. Cisco AnyConnect will download and install a VPN client after Java has been verified. You are now connected to HSU through VPN. You can find Cisco AnyConnect in the system tray (by default, this is located at the bottom right corner of the screen).
If the automated download does not work, click on the “Windows Desktop” link to download an installer package. Then double-click on the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install Cisco AnyConnect.
Run Cisco AnyConnect from the Start Menu. A new icon will appear in the system tray (by default, this is located at the bottom right corner of the screen).
Under 'Ready to connect', type in remotevpn.hsutx.edu, click 'Connect' then enter your username and password. Click 'Accept' and you are now connected to HSU through VPN.
3. Connecting to Desktop on Campus
After connecting to VPN, click…
Windows 7: Start | All Programs | Accessories | Remote Desktop Connection
Windows 8: In the Metro / Tile menu, type “Remote Desktop” to search for the program.
Enter your Computer name. Example: TECH-SMMOB-01S
If it does not connect the first time, you may have to try connecting to your PC a 2nd time (to give the PC time to wake-up)

You should now be connected to your HSU computer.
New Hire / Student Worker / Graduate Assistant / Intern
If there is a new faculty, staff, student worker, graduate assistant or intern, who requires access to the following services, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include the person’s name and ID number along with the service(s) they will need. These services include:
