New scholarship to be given to History and Political Science Majors

A new scholarship award will be available to juniors and seniors at Hardin-Simmons University beginning this spring semester.

The Maxine Durrett Earl Charitable Foundation presented a substantial gift to Hardin-Simmons University in August of 2013, specifying that the money is to be used for direct student scholarships.

The funds will be divided into two scholarships, one for a junior or senior student majoring in history, and one to be awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in political science.

Showing pride for her hometown of Post, Texas, and her love of history, Earl founded the Maxine Durrett Earl Charitable Foundation. She and her husband, Lewis Earl, also founded the Earl Survey Research Laboratory at Texas Tech University.

Mrs. Earl was a schoolteacher and business owner in Post, as well as a leader in historic preservation for the city.

The scholarship will be used for history and political science majors to further their education.
