Since the 1920s, new students have gone through beanie-capping
ceremonies including the tradition of having classmates autograph their
beanies. In more recent years, faculty and staff have joined the fun. Today’s
first-year students still enjoy this very special tradition.
The beanies, distinguishing freshmen from other students, allow the
HSU family to readily identify the newest additions to the student body.
