Dr. John Eric Swenson III is a professor of psychology and counseling at Hardin-Simmons University, where he served as Chair of the department for two years. He joined the faculty in the fall of 2012. Dr. Swenson is married and has two children. He grew up in Spur, Texas, a ranching community approximately 90 miles northwest of Abilene. Dr. Swenson loves spending time in the outdoors with his family hunting and fishing.

Prior to teaching at Hardin-Simmons, Dr. Swenson was Chair of the Department of Psychology at McMurry University. He also previously taught as an adjunct professor at Texas State University. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Swenson is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. He has been in private practice at the Ministry of Counseling and Enrichment in Abilene, and prior to this,  he had a private practice in New Braunfels, Texas.

Dr. Swenson remains actively involved in the Christian Association for Psychological Studies, where he served as a board member for six years and for two years was Chairman of the Board. His research and writing interests include the integration of Christian faith and psychology and professional ethics.
