Walter L Goodman Jr is Director of Logsdon Seminary Programs in San Antonio and Assistant Professor of New Testament. A graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Physical Education/Recreation and a minor in English. Dr. Goodman completed two degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary: a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Religious Education. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Religion at Baylor University, majoring in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in New Testament. In addition, Dr. Goodman completed eighteen post-graduate hours in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M University, Commerce, and five units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with the Baptist Health System in San Antonio.
Dr. Goodman came to Logsdon Seminary from Baptist University of the Américas, where he served as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Quality Enhancement. Prior to his higher education experience, he served as pastor of four Texas Baptist churches. Before becoming a pastor, Dr. Goodman served Baptist churches as a young adult/college minister and as a youth minister. Other ministry experience includes Baptist student ministry on a state college campus, church planter, and church planter consultant. Dr. Goodman is a member of various professional and community organizations, including the Society of Biblical Literature.
Born in north Louisiana, Dr. Goodman met his wife Caren when they were both 3 years old and attending Central Baptist Church in Springhill, Louisiana. They have two daughters, one son and four grandsons. Dr. Goodman enjoys quail hunting, but mostly just watching his Llewellin Setters work the fields.
