Dr. Mark W. Beasley, professor of history, is the department head for the HSU Department of History. Born and reared in southern California, he is a graduate of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where he earned both the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history.
Prior to his arrival at HSU, Dr. Beasley worked in various administrative capacities and taught American history part-time at Pepperdine University until 1993. At that time, he moved to Fort Worth to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree in American history with Professor Ben Procter at Texas Christian University.
After completing that degree, he taught a year at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, before joining the HSU history faculty in 2000.
His primary interest is in modern American political history, and he continues to conduct research for a project on former United States Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jim Wright.
Currently, Dr. Beasley is a member of the Southwestern Historical Association (an affiliate of the Southwestern Social Science Association), the Texas State Historical Association, and Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society.
