Born in Rochester, New York, Marie Howe attended Sacred Heart Convent School and the University of Windsor. She received an MFA from Columbia University. She teaches creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia, and New York University in New York City, where she lives with her daughter.
Her awards include a fellowship at the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College, as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a fellowship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She was the 2012-2014 Poet Laureate of New York State.
Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Poetry, Agni, Ploughshares, Harvard Review, and The Partisan Review, among others.
