Mr. HSU 2021

May 17, 2021 Jaidyn Kamplain

Within the last five years, Hardin-Simmons has established a new university tradition: the Mr. HSU Pageant. From hilarious interviews to musical performances, HSU students from all areas of campus compete for the crown each spring.

Five men competed for the title this year, all bringing different skills to the table. During the talent section of the competition, biology major Karson Gopffarth tapped into his artistic side with a Disney-inspired musical performance. He was followed by acting student D’Kameron Edmonson’s stunning presentation of a monologue from Shakespeare’s Othello. Business student Nick Thompson gave a hilarious comedic magic act for the crowd after Bryson Rule, vocal performance major, displayed his remarkable vocal skills with a rendition of Michael Bublé’s “Cry Me a River.”

Senior musical theater major Jess Westman was crowned Mr. HSU this year following his performance of a song in his upcoming musical titled Wheels. Inspired by his personal struggles with a type of muscular dystrophy, he hopes that the musical’s debut in June will encourage and inspire others.

Watch for announcement of the 2022 Mr. HSU pageant next spring and start brainstorming what your winning act will be!
