2022 National Day of Prayer Breakfast

May 6, 2022 Mary Burke

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May. Every year, Hardin-Simmons University hosts a community breakfast to celebrate the National Day of Prayer and bring the Abilene community together.

On Tuesday, May 3, HSU continued this tradition as the local community was invited to begin their day by breaking bread and joining in prayer. Community leaders were invited to take turns and lead everyone present in prayer. Each speaker’s prayer focused on a specific group or need, like prayers for our elected officials at all levels of government, prayers for teachers, and prayers for our community.

Heads bowed in prayer, the community spent the morning praying.

Prayer leaders were Councilman Shane Price, Pastor Eddie Puga (Ambler Baptist), Sgt. Josh Davis (APD), Daryl Zeller (AISD School Board), and Dr. John Neese (HSU Athletics).

Dr. Travis Craver ’05/’11, Associate Vice President of Spiritual Formation at HSU, shared, “We host this event at HSU because we want the city to know we value being an institution that demonstrates the presence of Jesus. We know that in prayer we are creating spiritual intimacy with others in our city. We want people throughout the city to know HSU is a place where people gather in faith, trusting God for the results and answers.”

Be sure to join us next year for 2023’s Prayer Breakfast.
