The Hardin-Simmons University Art Department will be hosting an art exhibit on August 28-September 22 at the Ira M. Taylor Memorial Gallery. The event will showcase a variety of media sculptures and drawings by Dallas artist, Robert Davis, Jr.

Davis has exhibited numerous shows and has received awards from a variety of renowned artists, such as Sandy Skoglund and Donald Sultan.

His work has been featured in the “25th International Juried Exhibition” in New York City, New York, “In the Mix” and the invitational exhibit “Group IV” in St. Charles, Missouri, as well as “Mechanics of the Imagination” in Prescott, Arizona.

Davis describes his work as a way to show the unification of people separated by social differences and class.

“I try to make each medium count as being symbolic to the classes of our society, manipulating them to illustrate the overall objective of the work. This process, although a long one, is an enjoyable necessity that absorbs me back into the life of the worker that I am originally from,” Davis said.

The gallery will be open Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or by appointment with the art department. Viewers will also get the opportunity to visit with the artist September 21 at 5:00 p.m. All of the Abilene community is invited to attend the exhibit.
