September 18, 2017 Staff Reports

(Abilene, Texas) – Hardin-Simmons University has announced the dates for its annual Lights, Camera, Free Ride contest offering one lucky incoming student a chance to win a one-year “free ride” to HSU.

The contest entry period opens on October 1, 2017 and ends on December 7, 2017. Online voting will take place from December 8, 2017 to January 31, 2018, and winners will be announced at the Winter Preview event on February 17, 2018. Read all official rules on the contest website https://www.hsutx.edu/lcfr/, which will go live on Oct. 1.

To enter, prospective students create short videos celebrating their “#going2HSU” decision. Videos will showcase students’ dreams, expectations, and reasons why HSU will make their dreams and goals a reality. The contest allows students to share their reasons for choosing Hardin-Simmons out of all the colleges in the US and share why they want to be part of HSU’s unique and authentic campus experience.

This is the fourth year of the Lights Camera Free Ride contest. In 2017, Rachel Bean of Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas, won the top prize.

Making higher education affordable is a priority for HSU. In addition to the “Lights, Camera, Free Ride!” contest, HSU offers a wide range of scholarships to qualified students including the Texas Scholarship, a $44,000 scholarship open to all Texas high school graduates admitted to the school. Overall, 98 percent of the HSU student body receives financial aid.

The Grand Prize winner will receive tuition, room, and board (shared campus dorm room and campus meal plan) scholarship, not including miscellaneous student and course fees, for the 2018-19 academic year, valued at up to $40,000, after taking into account all the other scholarships and grants the participant is eligible to receive.

The Runner Up winner will receive an on-campus, shared residence hall room expense and meal plan expense for the 2018-19 academic year, valued at up to $10,000, after taking into account all other scholarships and grants the participant is entitled to receive.

Up to 25 Honorable Mention winners may be awarded a $1,000 one-time scholarship to attend Hardin-Simmons University for the 2018-2019 academic year, applied in $500 increments in the Fall of 2018 and Spring of 2019 semesters. HSU in its sole discretion may award less than 25 Honorable Mention winners.
