John Armstrong, founder of Acts 3 Network and author of “Your Church is Too Small,” spoke in Behrens Chapel on Tuesday about unity in the church.

Armstrong started off his message by giving some statistics about Christianity in America. “The Pew research and Gallup polls tell us that the fastest growing religious people in America are the Nones,” he said. “The Nones are non-church identified.”

Explaining the non-church segment further, he said “those non-church identified still believe in some kind of spirituality. They don’t go to church and they are bored to tears with religion but they still pray often.” Armstrong pointed out that because of this many people are involved in Christian community that “do not fit the standard idea of what we think church is.”

Referencing a passage in the gospel of John throughout his message, Armstrong often referred to Jesus telling people to love one another. He involved denominations saying “it takes us too long to realize that scripture and the word come before denomination. Doctrine is important but Jesus wants us to be one.”

He ended his talk with an uplifting note. “The only hope we have for the future is right here in the Word. We must begin to have community and unity and love,” he said.
