HSU Welcomes Incoming Students at Round-Up Friday

On April 28, May 5, and June 23, HSU will host the incoming freshmen class and their families. They will begin the process of making Hardin Simmons University their home away from home.

Round-Up is a student registration and orientation event that is designed for students who have admission approval and have paid their enrollment deposit.

This is where new incoming prospects become official students. Incoming students may select any date that is convenient for them and their family to come to Round Up, but classes fill up quickly and they are encouraged to register sooner rather than later in order to have a better opportunity to select the classes and times they prefer.

Check-in for the future Cowboys and Cowgirls will begin at 10 a.m. in the Dyess Welcome Center. Their day will consist of visiting with representatives from various campus organizations and departments, attending student information breakout sessions, and meeting their academic advisor while registering for their fall classes.

The admissions office assists students with the application and financial aid process to get them ready to attend Round-Up. They work with students all year long to help them make their college decision. Round-Up is an all-campus affair. Most offices on campus, including academics, play a crucial role in welcoming the new students.

In addition to working with students all year, Round-Up takes months of planning. It’s a big process to coordinate so many offices across campus, but Grant Greenwood, the director of admissions and recruiting, says it’s worth it.

“The work involved is always worth it when [they] greet the newest students to the HSU family and legacy,” Greenwood said.

Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruiting Alyssa Rasco talked about her favorite part of the event.

“It’s definitely working checkout, when families are done for the day. I love talking with them about the classes they will be taking and the professors they will be with, and seeing the excitement building for their first year at HSU,” Rasco said.

Round-Up is where new students’ college story at HSU begins to take shape. Greenwood explained his favorite part of the event.

“The excitement students express over getting their student ID. The ID is what makes it feel official for students,” Greenwood said.

Before the new students leave campus on the day of the event, they have the opportunity to get a free Round-Up t-shirt by completing the Round-Up Survey on the 2nd floor of the Moody Student Center.
