HSU students will be participating in a Neighborhood Clean-Up geared to support and serve the Abilene community. The event will take place October 14 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The Neighborhood Clean-Up will be part of the six-pronged mission of the Gilbert Games. The goals include Social Integration, Campus Traditions, Physical Wellbeing, Academic Progress, Spiritual Formation, and Civic Engagement.

The Clean-Up fits into the Civic Engagement category. Through this mission, first-year students will engage in acts of service to the surrounding communities in Abilene.

The students will work to develop a culture of care and responsibility for others through the cleaning and active service to Hardin-Simmons and nearby neighborhoods.

“While students might be picking up trash around HSU, it is an opportunity for them to begin to develop a sense of responsibility and care for those around us,” said Megan Baldree, Associate Dean of Students.
