A rock concert will be hosted by the HSU Music Department in dedication to the fallen Abilene police officer Detective Elise Ybarra. A portion of the proceeds from the HSU Rocks concert held on Saturday, August 26 in Behrens Auditorium will be given to the Ybarra family.

Det. Ybarra was killed in a car accident in Clyde on August 6.

HSU will honor and remember Det. Ybarra through a song performance and a candle light vigil after the concert. HSU senior and participant of HSU Rocks Kaelon McLemore believes that this event is a helpful way for HSU to show its support for Abilene during this time.

“Through this concert, we want to show the love and care HSU has for the Ybarra family, Abilene Police Department, and community of Abilene,” McLemore said.

HSU Rocks will take place August 25-26 at 8:00 p.m. at Behrens Auditorium; the benefit concert is the Saturday evening show. The concert will cover rock classics from the 70’s through today. Tickets to the event will be $10 and can be purchased at the door.

Through the concert, the HSU Music Department wants to reflect on the life and service of Det. Ybarra and the evolution of rock.

“We hope to shine a light of hope for the Ybarra family through our song of dedication and music of rock,” McLemore said.
