Sam Carroll has served an assistant district attorney for the last ten years in Taylor County. Now, Carroll has set his site on the elected position as Judge of County Court at Law #2.
Carroll earned an M. Ed in counseling and guidance from HSU, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
A member of First Baptist Church, Carroll, an Abilene resident for 20 years, said he became interested in the post when Taylor County Court at Law No. 2 Judge Barbara Rollins announced plans to retire when her term ends. Rollins has served more than 20 years on the bench.
He is married to Gracie Carroll, who is Associate VP for Academic Advising and Retention at HSU.
Rick Strange graduated with honors and a BBA in accounting from Hardin-Simmons University. He is also a member of the HSU Board of Trustees and a member of the Budget and Audit Committee.
As a student at HSU, he was a member of the Cowboy Band
Strange is seeking the Place 3 seat on the Texas Supreme Court being vacated by Justice Harriet O’Neill. Strange is currently serving as Judge of the 11th Court of Appeals. He faces four other Republican candidates in the primary election.
Strange holds a degree from the University of Texas Law School.
