“The clock of your life will be restarted, and the score reset,” said Hardin-Simmons University chief academic officer, Dr. Tommy Brisco, as he addressed about 500 freshmen and transfer students and their parents during the inaugural Summer Round-Up, Monday, June 24, 2013.
Brisco told students new to HSU this coming fall that they will have opportunity to demonstrate accountability and grab a piece of the future as they prepare for a lifetime of service during their time at the university.
HSU has traditionally offered Spring Round-Up in April as the first chance for students already accepted to HSU to register for classes. In the fall and winter, HSU offers preview events for prospective students. This year, two registration events have been added to those traditional opportunities, with the next chance to register coming up in the Last Round-Up on August 5, 2013.
When students leave Round-Up, they have a schedule in hand and know exactly what their first semester will cost. Students and parents sample cuisine in the cafeteria, talk to counselors about financial aid, and learn about the other things they can do on campus, both academically and socially.
There are plenty of opportunities at HSU to plug in to non-academic campus life. During Round-Up,
students have opportunity to learn about clubs, service organizations, ministry opportunities, international studies, theater, and work study when they visit the Campus Connection in Moody Center.
Meanwhile, parents learn about ways their students will be supported by campus personnel and programs, including tutoring, career services, help with learning disabilities, and services offered in the library.
Vicki House, interim vice president for enrollment management, says over the course of the summer, she expects about 125 more freshmen and transfer students to sign up for classes before the start of the fall semester, which begins Monday, August 26, 2013.
Students new to HSU are encouraged to sign up for a five-day event called Stampede that acquaints students with the campus and faculty just prior to the start of school. Stampede begins Wednesday, August 21, 2013. http://www.hsutx.edu/news-and-events/event/stampede
