holiday periods. Students who must remain in Abilene during holiday periods must make arrangements on an
individual basis with the Housing Office. However, the university is not obligated to provide housing during any
Every room is priced evenly. These rates are evaluated annually and may increase. Any questions regarding these
rates may be directed to the Residence Life Office.
Assessments are made by residence hall staff at check-out, when damages have occurred, or when the resident
fails to check out or meet cleanliness requirements as set by the building director. Damage assessments are based
on the cost of repair or replacement.
Once room assignments have been made for fall, no moves will be made until the students arrive on campus for
the fall semester and then only as space allows.
Students whose roommates leave after registration or whose roommates do not come will be given the option of
taking a new roommate, moving in with another student who needs a roommate, or paying for a single occupancy.
Extenuating circumstances will be given consideration.
A room change request is initiated through the residence hall director but must be authorized by the Residence
Life Office before the student moves. A $25 room change fee will be assessed each student making a room change
after the 8
class day of the semester.
Residence Hall and Room Entry
Each hall is equipped with the OneCard entry system. When doors are activated, students gain entry into their hall
by swiping their OneCard then entering their personal four-digit pin number. A student loaning another individual
his/her OneCard and/or disclosing his/her pin number to another individual compromises the safety of building
Any student who misuses his/her OneCard is subject to disciplinary action. The same applies to unauthorized
building guests and to residents who entertain unauthorized non-residents in their building after hours. Using
windows as an entrance or exit is prohibited except in emergency situations.
Students are issued keys to their rooms when they check in. All students should lock their rooms whenever they
leave them. The university cannot be responsible for items lost or stolen from a room. A $25 charge will be made
for a lost or unreturned key.
Care and Cleaning of Rooms
The student is responsible for the care of his/her room. Inventory cards need to be checked accurately at the
beginning and end of each semester. Damage to rooms will be charged to the occupants of the room unless the
person doing the damage is identified as someone other than the occupants. Damage to a suite, wing, or to the
entire hall will be charged to occupants of the area damaged if the persons doing the damage are not identified.
Students are not to remove furnishings from any room or from any of the lounge areas without permission of the
residence hall director.
