  • Describe the characteristics of higher education as they apply to your home institution, including organizational structure, Carnegie classification, mission, strategic plan, funding model, etc.
  • Employ public laws and regulations and institutional policies to your instructional activities

Career and Professional Development

  • Articulate your perceptions regarding a career in higher education
  • Identify your style or color profile and how to communicate with and relate better to others, including how to create or maintain an educational environment that supports, challenges and motivates people from all color profiles.
  • Prepare a strategy for achieving promotion and/or tenure at your home institution
  • Describe the scope of service activities and identify institutional expectations for career advancement
  • Employ the principles of successful negotiation to achieve professional goals
  • Describe the benefits of professional networking and the progress achieved among program participants

Designing, Delivering, and Assessing Student-Centered Learning

  • Apply philosophies of instructional design and development to your individual courses
  • Design an effective presentation using a systematic approach
  • Integrate active learning strategies to ensure student centered learning
  • Design strategies of formative and summative assessment of student learning
  • Identify how technology can be used in instruction
  • Identify the scope of student advising and recognize when to refer to other resources

Accreditation and Its Impact on Instruction

  • Identify components of the CAPTE accreditation process and evaluative criteria
  • Identify the purposes of and timeline to create a self study report
  • Describe the institutional and CAPTE expectations of student scholarly activities
  • Compare and contrast institutional versus specialized accreditation

Developing and Maintaining a Scholarly Agenda

  • Develop a plan to achieve a scholarly agenda as per CAPTE criteria and institutional expectations
  • Substantiate your resource needs (including time) for career development

  • Determine the level of personal and professional balance and adjust accordingly
