BYA Committees
Alumni Relations/Career Placement – Work with the Alumni Board and investigate and/or develop an Auxiliary Board with the BYA to help increase retention and involvement of valuable alumni. Work with appropriate HSU personnel and members of BYA in creating a network for students entering their prospective career fields. Assist Career Services office for Career Preparation Retreat.
Communications/Technology - Communicate on a regular basis with the Board membership via a set vehicle, i.e. newsletter. Also communicate with the press, HSU, Abilene and others as needed concerning the Board events both before and after the fact. Create and maintain a BYA home page connected to the HSU Alumni website. Also, provide assistance in computer networking with the Career Service Office. Seek additional ways to connect BYA members through the internet.
Fundraising - Provide opportunities to raise funds to bolster the current scholarship and/or the General Operating Fund. The General Operating Fund provides moneys for honorariums for TLT speakers and other Board expenses. Support any Board-specific or University-wide campaigns.
Membership - The Membership committee shall compile a list of nominees for membership. This committee also contacts those members who are up for renewal and/or rotating off the Board due to reaching their 40th birthday. An additional responsibility includes contacting those non-active Board members regarding their ongoing participation.
Cowpoke Posse - Create a program or focus for children during Homecoming activities. Create program of activities, snacks and entertainment for Saturday morning of Homecoming. Keep continual contact with Posse members. Includes designing, producing and mailing birthday cards and a newsletter.
Scholarship - Solicit scholarship nominations from faculty, staff and student body. Review applications and present top choices to Executive Committee, interview finalists and select recipients. Recognize scholarship recipient(s) in an appropriate manner, i.e. chapel presentation. Organize program and select person(s) to speak at the Leadership Program at the chapel assembly for the Fall semester the following year. This chapel recognizes our Tomorrow’s Leaders Today and Erin Greer Memorial Scholarship recipients.
Student Relations/Recruiting - Communicate on a regular basis directly with the student body through The Brand and through interaction with student leaders. Conduct student forums on regular basis. Assist the Enrollment Services Office with Howdy Parties in your respective community.
