Congratulations to maintenance technician Pablo Puente, his wife Irma, and son Justin as they welcome Emma Andrea to the family. She was born on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, weighing in at 7 lbs. 5 oz.

Accolades
DJ Gililland
, head athletic trainer, was elected for a two-year term as chair of the Athletic Training Committee of the American Southwest Conference at their annual meeting held in December.  DJ’s term as chair will begin in June 2007. Also at the ASC meeting, the HSU AT staff won the Athletic Training Staff of the Year award. Full story>>

Welcome to the Forty Acres
The Office of University Communications welcomes Amanda Etter as the new director of marketing. The newly created position is a result of the realignment of the Office of Institutional Advancement due to Wayne Roy’s retirement. Full details on the department’s restructure>>

Amada received her telecommunications degree from HSU in 2005. As a student, she was a member of student congress and the Spurs dance team, and was the sports reporter for HSU Athletics on KAGT radio station. She worked as a part-time admissions consultant in Enrollment Services before joining the staff full time upon graduation. Amanda and her husband Mitchell, a 2006 music education major who is now the assistant band director at Madison Middle School, are active at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

 

Reynaldo Ledezma joined Richardson Library as a tech assistant. He is a current student majoring in Spanish with a minor in math.

 

Paula Fine is the new records assistant in the Registrar’s Office. She has previously worked for the Hawley Independent School District. She and her husband, Brent, have two children and attend Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley. She enjoys watching sports events, sewing, and crafting.

Notes of Interest

Nursing Job Fair
Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing will host the 7th Annual Nursing Job Fair on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PHSSN Meadows Conference Center, 2149 Hickory Street. 2007 graduating MSN, FNP-C, BSN, ADN, and LVN students have been invited and junior students interested in summer internships will be present. The event is open to the public.

HSU Athletics on the Radio
With the sale of radio station, 90.5, HSU athletic events will now air on AM station KSLI 1280.

Richardson Library Display
The current Richardson Library foyer display, Baptist Heroes of the Faith, was designed by Teresa Ellis, theological librarian and assistant professor. The display features John Smyth, Thomas Helwys, Andrew Fuller, William Carey, John Clarke, Roger Williams, and John Leland. These men helped to frame the Baptist faith through the teaching of believer’s baptism, to inspire missionary zeal through the initiation of the modern missions movement, and to lead the call for religious freedom in this country through their persistent demands for a bill of rights. The display may be viewed during regular library hours.

Mini Me Fully Recovered After Dog Attack
