Kylie Jenkins, a senior at Wylie High School, will be starting her first classes at Hardin-Simmons University in August. Kylie and her parents, Julie and Tony Jenkins, were on the campus today to register for fall classes.
The Spring Round-Up event brings in about a third of all of the students who will be new to HSU in the fall; two other Round-Up events will welcome the other two-thirds of the freshmen and transfer students.
Julie says while it will be nice for Kylie to remain close to home, it was HSU’s volleyball coach, Sabrina Bingham, that was the real influential factor. “Coach Bingham came to Kylie’s games at Wylie and has shown a lot of interest in Kylie.” Julie says they got to know Bingham when Kylie attended Bingham’s HSU volleyball camps.
Kylie says she got to know the campus attending various sports camps over the years. She says she has also enjoyed basketball and soccer camps at HSU. Kylie says, while she is looking forward to volleyball, she is also happy that HSU provides a good Christian atmosphere.
When asked about her major, Kylie says she wants to be a dental hygienist and will eventually go to school for that.
Other registration events at HSU are the Summer Round-Up, June 24, 2013, and The Last Round-up, August 5.
