Outstanding Accounting Grad Awarded Winnie & D.M. Wiggins Medal during HSU Commencement

The Winnie & D. M. Wiggins Medal is awarded to the graduating senior who has shown academic excellence throughout his or her entire college career. Receiving the medal during HSU’s winter graduation exercises held December 15, 2012, is Riley Kidd of Abilene, Texas, graduating with a B.B.A. in accounting.

Kidd was selected by members of the faculty for his excellence in character, personal development, and academic achievement. He has distinguished himself academically, in service to the university, and through employment in his chosen field of study.

Kidd has been named repeatedly to the President’s list and is a Kelley-Tucker Endowed Business Scholar, an award presented to business students who have demonstrated a high desire and ability to succeed in business.

He was also awarded the Kelley-Tucker Medal for outstanding academic achievement and was the Outstanding Accounting Student of 2012. He is also the outgoing president of Delta Mu Delta, the business honors fraternity.

He has managed to achieve academic excellence and provide service to the university while working 32-plus hours per week at United Supermarkets as a customer service clerk, a bookkeeper, and a shift supervisor.

A summa cum laude graduate, he is the son of Sheila and Ronnie Kidd. His father was also an accounting graduate of Hardin-Simmons University.
