A class of 12 Hardin-Simmons students is set to head to Washington D.C. next week, October 25-29, 2012, to represent the Philippines in the National Model United Nations D.C. conference.
Under the direction of Dr. Coleman Patterson, professor of management and leadership and the director of the Leadership Studies Program, these students will join delegations from universities across the country.
The National Model United Nations program is the largest and among the most prestigious collegiate United Nations simulations.
“HSU has a long tradition of fielding Model U.N. teams at collegiate conferences,” says Patterson. “Dr. Charles Garraway advised the team for decades, followed by Dr. Jeff Key. I am the newest in the line of faculty members to guide students through this unique educational experience. I am very excited about this class and upcoming adventure. We have 12 students in the class (six women/six men) with a wide range of interests and backgrounds. This promises to be a wonderful educational experience – both at the conference and seeing Washington D.C.”
The conference, with an opening ceremony at the State Department, begins October 26.
