Former United States Secretary of State, General Colin Powell, will deliver his message on the theme, “Lead Where You Are” during this week’s nationally-simulcast Global Leadership Summit hosted regionally at Hardin-Simmons University.
HSU is one of 19 premiere host sights in Texas, and one of 230 across the nation, where local community and business leaders will gather to hear from this year’s 13 internationally recognized speakers.
The two-day summit at HSU is presented in partnership with The Willow Creek Association and provides a yearly
opportunity for church, business, government, non-profit, and educational leaders to engage global leaders, world-class entrepreneurs, best-selling authors, and notable Christian authorities in the exploration of relevant leadership practices.
Powell was a senior-level advisor to four U.S. presidents; served in the roles of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and National Security Advisor; and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become the 65th U.S. Secretary of State
Powell Served in the U.S. Army for 35 years, rising to the rank of four-star general. He is the founder of the not-for-profit organization America's Promise Alliance, as well as the Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service at his alma mater, the City College of New York. He is also the author of the recently-released book It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership.
The session with Powell will be Thursday, August 8, 2013, 10:30 a.m. – noon, Behrens Auditorium. There will be a break prior to the 10:30 session, with the lunch break following Powell’s address.
Also speaking at the summit is Mark Burnett, executive television producer of such popular television series as “Survivor,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” “The Voice,” and “The Bible.” The four-time Emmy winner was named one of the World’s Most Influential People by Time Magazine.
Other speakers at the conference are Dr. Brene Brown, a New York Times best-selling author and research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work; Vijay Govindarajan, a Top 50 management thinker and professor at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business; Patrick Lencioni, founder and president of The Table Group and a best-selling author; Liz Wiseman, a Wall Street Journal best-selling author and executive strategy and leadership consultant; Oscar Muriu, senior pastor at the Nairobi Chapel in Kenya; Dr. Henry Cloud, a clinical psychologist, leadership consultant and best-selling author; Chris Brown, co-senior pastor at North
Coast Church; Joseph Grenny, co-founder of Vital Smarts and a best-selling author; Bob Goff, founder and CEO of Restore International; and Andy Stanley, founder and senior pastor of North Point Ministries.
Willow Creek founder and senior pastor Bill Hybels will also speak at the summit.
Attendees will gain unique insights from experts with a wide range of leadership backgrounds and experiences that they can use in their businesses, churches and daily lives.
The summit will be televised on a large screen in Behrens Auditorium. About 250 people have registered for the event this week and there are still seats available.
