About 100 prospective students and their families will to travel to Abilene for Winter Preview at Hardin-Simmons University next Saturday.
Students and parents will start arriving at the HSU Dyess Welcome Center at 8 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013, for a full day of campus exploration. The day also includes opportunities for prospective students to find out more about academics, clubs, living on campus, and other fun activities.
Visiting students will take a campus tour, get advice on financial aid, and visit booths where organizations showcase opportunities, other than academic, available at HSU.
Jim Jones, associate vice president for enrollment services, says the day, however, is mainly about exposing the high school juniors and seniors to higher education academics and giving prospective students a chance to visit with the dean of the school in which they have the most interest. Students also may visit with and get to know some of their prospective professors.
Brynn Reynolds, visitor coordinator for enrollment services, says she expects to see a number of students and parents on a walk-in basis that day as well. “Some students either miss the deadline for online registration or they decide to come after online registration closed, and we welcome them.”
Jones says he is thrilled at the number of students who will be visiting the campus next Saturday. “A campus preview is the best way to help students narrow down their choices. We think the level of participation helps us know how well we are reaching prospective students and creating interest in attending HSU. Getting prospects on campus is our most productive recruiting effort, so we strive to make these events, the Cowboy Fridays, and the personal campus tours very special for our guests.”
