Abilene Summer Piano Camp 2013

The Abilene Summer Piano Camp at Hardin-Simmons University offers an exciting opportunity to talented young piano
students. The week will be filled with
intensive study and unique musical experiences in a friendly and supportive
environment.
Piano students entering 8th – 12th grade
and graduating seniors are invited to apply. Upon teacher recommendation, younger advanced students will be
considered.
Attendees should have a memorized piece, a work-in-progress,
and an etude and/or exercise appropriate to his/her level.
Curriculum includes Master Classes, Technique Class, Piano
Ensemble/Sight-reading Class, Composition Class, Theory and Ear Training,
Supervised Practice, Recreational Activities and MUCH MORE!
Check-in for resident campers will be on Sunday
afternoon (June 23) between 1:00-1:30 pm in the lobby of Woodward-Dellis
Recital Hall. After check-in, you will
be given your residence hall room assignment and may take your belongings to your
room. A deposit of $10.00 is required
for your residence hall room key. This will be refunded
when your key is returned.
Camp commuters may check in between 1:30-2:00 pm in the
lobby of the Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. Following check-in (@ 2:15), we will take students on a brief tour of
the music complex and campus. We will
begin our first formal session after the tour.
Drop off and pick up for commuters will be in front of
the Hemphill Music Building. Our first
class will commence at 9:00 each morning and activities will finish at 9:20
each evening.
We would like to invite families and friends to attend
the final recital which will be on Thursday, June 27 at 10:00 am in
Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. We will
have a farewell reception following the recital, and the camp will conclude
after the reception.

In 1929,
Dr. Irl Allison, Dean of the School of Music changed the world for young
pianists by establishing the National Guild of Piano Teachers on the
Hardin-Simmons University campus. In
1930 the School of Music became the first school in Texas accredited by the
National Association of Schools of Music.
