After 41 years in public education, I came back to HSU in 2001 as the director of the Center for Literacy and Learning and felt I was coming home. As a former student and now alumni, the university and the Irvine School of Education are successful parts of my life as an educator. HSU was where I fulfilled my dream to become a teacher. The focus of the Center as a training facility for teachers of dyslexic children and adults captured my interest and I wanted to contribute to that ministry. My favorite quote is from the movie Apollo 13, “Failure is not an option.” I do not want to fail myself by accepting less than I am capable and I do not want to fail my students by accepting less than they are capable.
