In 1954 I heard the words "Hardin-Simmons University" for the first time as my older brother began his college career here. Twenty-two years later, in 1976, I began my association with HSU as an adjunct professor which continued for 25 years. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and even occasionally dreamed of being here as a full-time faculty. That dream became reality the fall semester of 2001. I have found the atmosphere at HSU to be stimulating and warm. The students have been a source of joy and challenge. Teaching in the Social Work Program is special as we can openly discuss it here as "The Jesus Profession" in that the clients of social work tend to be the poor, the powerless, the forgotton in our society--that group to whom Jesus often ministered. What a source of pride it is to know that our graduates are making this a better world--in Jesus' name.
