I came to Hardin-Simmons University, not intending to stay beyond three years. Wow. Twenty plus years later I’m still here. Abilene and the University are a great place to call home. At Hardin-Simmons University you will find faculty and staff that genuinely want you to learn and be successful. If you don’t want us to call you by name and get to know you, then don’t choose HSU! Faculty teach the courses, not graduate students. Faculty maintain regular office hours. Staff answer questions, rather than your only option being an automated menu of choices through a phone call. Regardless of your field of study, I will not promise that it will be easy, but I can assure you that we are here to guide you along the way. Abilene and the surrounding area have wonderful events and sights, and represent some of the best that West Texas has to offer. I have made lasting friendships while at HSU and in Abilene and by choice, I call this home. I am honored to walk among scholars, enriched to have the dedication and support of talented staff, and blessed to work in a Christian environment where I get to work with engaging, intelligent young people during the chapter of your life we call “college.”

Before arriving at Hardin-Simmons University, I taught at Southwest Texas State University, Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas and high school in Georgetown, Texas. While on sabbatical at the University of Oklahoma, I served as a graduate teaching assistant and because I was a tenured faculty member at a four year institution, I was given the perk of teaching the honors speech course in their University core. All of these positions solidified my desire to teach at the University level and work to better prepare high school teachers. I continue to serve the University Interscholastic League as a consultant in the speech events, in addition to helping run area district and regional competitions.
