In his well-known dramatic poem “The Death of the Hired Man,” Robert Frost defines home as “the place where, when you have to go there, / They have to take you in.” In 1977 when I came to Hardin-Simmons right out of graduate school, I had no intention of staying more than a year or two. What happened was, the students took me in and have continued to do so every year since. What a joy it is to discover anew the values of poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction with intelligent, perceptive, creative students. They make HSU the home I didn’t know I would need.
