I had hoped, after my family and I returned to the US from the mission field, to get back into physical therapy education. Little did I know that I would have the opportunity to teach at a small, faith-based institution where I could truly integrate professional practice and faith. I have always felt that the best physical therapists were competent in their practice AND demonstrated Christ’s compassion to patients and their families. At HSU, I have the privilege of working with some of the best students in the world, helping them fulfill their dreams of becoming competent physical therapists and instilling in them the desire to use their profession to share Christ’s love with others. One of my biggest joys has been encouraging students to consider practicing in a mission setting after graduation. I have shared my personal experiences with practice in a foreign setting and, recently, took two students to work in a mission hospital in Africa for three weeks. I hope to take several more students in the coming years, allowing them to provide care to others through physical therapy and in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Whoever said that “dreams don’t come true.” I’m living mine.
