Dr. Thomas Wier

Dr.
Thomas G. Wier, associate professor of economics, received his Ph. D. in economics
in 1992 at the University of Tennessee with fields in regional economic
development and monetary theory. Before coming to HSU, Wier performed numerous
market potential, impact, and feasibility studies while working with the
Economic Analysis Unit of the Tennessee Valley Authority, including a study of
the feasible market and economic impact of an NFL football team in Tennessee
and a major analysis of the role of the service sector in the Tennessee Valley
Economy. Included in this analysis was a complete breakdown of the role of
tourism and “export consumer services.” Also before coming to Hardin-Simmons
University, he performed such analyses in a consulting capacity, including
economic impact studies for Northeastern State University and the Cherokee
Nation. His current research interests are the method of business decision-making
in economics and business ethics as well as the concept of economic complexity.
