Dr. Melissa Madeson
Melissa Nicole Madeson, associate professor of fitness and
sport science, is a native of California. She began teaching courses in the HSU
Fitness and Sport Sciences Department in 2008.As a Division I college athlete in track and cross country, she received
a B.A. in psychology and an M.S. in kinesiology from California State
University, Sacramento. While personal training, teaching group exercise, and sport
psychology courses at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she earned a Ph.D.
in sport and exercise psychology.
With great appreciation for health and fitness, she holds
certifications for personal training (NASM and AAAI), group exercise
instruction, cycling, nutrition (AAAI), and yoga (Yogafit). She is an active
member of AASP (Association of Applied Sport Psychology) through conference
participation, education, and hands-on work with college, high school, and
recreational athletes in mental and physical training.
Madeson is also a member of AAPERD (American Alliance for
Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) and has published research in The International Journal of Exercise
Teaching and motivating others to enjoy God’s gift of
physical, mental, and spiritual health remains her passion as part of the HSU
