Dr. Diana Higgins

Dr. Diana Higgins, professor of education, is director of
the HSU Graduate Reading Specialist Program. Prior to her appointment as director,
she served as head of the HSU Education Department for 12 years.
Higgins is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso,
where she earned the Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and secondary
education. She completed her graduate studies at Arizona State University in
Tempe, Arizona, receiving the Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy in
education specializing in reading.
Prior to her appointment at HSU, Higgins taught classes at
Maricopa Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, and was a graduate teaching and
research assistant at Arizona State University. Prior to her graduate work, she
taught fifth grade and bilingual kindergarten in Texas and New Mexico.
She is a member of the International Reading Association,
the National Council Teachers of English, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and
has served on the Board of Directors of various arts, education, and human
service organizations.
