Dr. Mark Ouimette

Dr. Mark A. Ouimette, professor of geology, is a registered
professional geologist with the State of Texas (# 6480) and the head of the HSU
Geology and Environmental Science Department. He also serves as director of the
Environmental Management Graduate Program.
Ouimette grew up in Long Beach, California, and earned his
B.A. in geography from California State University at Chico in 1977. He served
in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer for about 16 years of active duty and
active reserve duty. His military occupational specialty was primarily as a
manpower manager at the Base, Battalion, and Brigade levels.
Ouimette used the G.I. Bill to earn a B.S. and M.S. in geology
from East Carolina University in 1985 and 1991, respectively. He went on to The
University of Texas at El Paso to earn his Ph.D. in geological sciences in
1994.
His area of geologic specialization is Petrology, Mineralogy
and Water Resources Management.
Ouimette is married to Dr. Nina Ouimette, dean, Patty Hanks
Shelton School of Nursing, and they have three children.
