Dr. Richard Traylor

Dr. Richard Traylor, associate professor of history, joined
the history faculty at Hardin-Simmons University in 2003 to teach Early
America.
In addition to teaching survey courses on United States
history, he teaches upper-division courses on Colonial and Revolutionary
America, the Early Republic, and the Civil War and Reconstruction. He also enjoys
teaching courses on Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and the History of
American Religious Culture.
Traylor has published articles in the Missouri Historical Review and the journal Baptist History and Heritage. Dr. Traylor is currently revising his
dissertation “Born of Water and Spirit: Popular Religion and Early American
Baptists in Kentucky, 1776-1860” for publication with the University of
Tennessee Press.
