Dr. Steven Stogsdill
Dr. Steve Stogsdill has been an assistant professor of
communication at HSU since 2007. He began teaching courses in communication
part-time in 1995 at a small Baptist college in Missouri. Nine years later he
began work on his doctorate in organization communication at Texas A&M,
graduating in 2009.
He teaches Intro to Speech, Organizational Communication,
Mass Media Management, and a number of trends (special topics) courses. He has
taught more than 20 different communication courses in three universities as a generalist
over the 16 years of his career.
He
is currently a member of two communication associations: Southern States
Communication Association (SSCA), and the online community, American
Communication Association (ACA). He has served as a book reviewer for a new
communications textbook and reviewed a paper submission for the ACA
Communication Journal.
He presented
a paper on Perceptions of Power in Organizations at SSCA in 2011. His research
interests include how people view organizational power personally in
positive and negative terms, impacts that new communication trends are having
on old communication theory, cross-cultural communication in the workplace,
personality and communication, and he hopes to revisit a paper he wrote in grad
school about FDR’s first presidential campaign speeches.
He likes
to build just about anything from just about any kind of material: from making
things from cardboard with his kids, to home remodeling projects, to woodworking
and painting murals. He likes movies, playing with his kids, reading books with
his wife, grilling burgers with friends, and watching sunsets.
