Dr. Gail Roaten
Dr. Gail K. Roaten
is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Dept. at
Hardin-Simmons University, joining the faculty in 2013. Prior to coming to HSU,
Dr. Roaten was a counselor educator at Texas State University and Baylor
University for 9 years. She worked as a professional counselor in schools for
many years, served as the interim director of the Career Counseling Center at
Baylor, and has done pro-bono counseling in a variety of places and contexts.
Dr. Roaten received her B.S. in Education from the
University of Texas @ Austin, her M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from
Tarleton State University, and her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision
from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Dr. Roaten is a Licensed Professional
Counselor and a board approved Supervisor in Texas.
Dr. Roaten is currently president-elect of the Association
for Child and Adolescent Counseling, a division of the American Counseling
Association. She is very active in numerous state and national organizations
focused on counseling, counselor education and supervision. Some of her research
interests include effective interventions with adolescents, adolescent
development, and school counseling.
