Dr. Tim Chandler
Dr. Tim Chandler, professor of communication, has been an
HSU faculty member since 2001 and is tenured. He is also the director of video production
for Hardin-Simmons University.
Chandler’s teaching responsibilities include course work in
advertising, speech communication, digital portfolio, media production, and
film criticism.
His research interests include advertising education, the
Texas Forts Trail, and the Charles Goodnight Buffalo Ranch house, which has
been an ongoing project since 2006. Currently Chandler is serving as marketing
consultant for the Armstrong County Museum, which is restoring the house and
building a visitor center.
Chandler co-authored, with Dr. Randy Armstrong, Castle on the Prairie: The Charles Goodnight
House (4-0 Press, 2006) and photographed the illustrations for Special Tests of the Cardiopulmonary,
Vascular, and Gastrointestinal Systems – O’Connell, O’Connell and Hinman,
SLACK INC., Thorofare, New Jersey 2010.
He has served as HSU faculty secretary for two terms and
currently serves on the Faculty Council. Chandler is active with the American
Advertising Federation, serving two terms as president of the local chapter,
AAF Abilene, and has served at the district level for the Tenth District of the
AAF. He also serves as faculty advisor for the student advertising team since
2006 and for the student ADDY competition in which his students have competed
since 2004. In 2007 Chandler was named the Advertising Educator of the Year for
the Tenth District of the AAF.
Chandler has written a monthly column on advertising for
Abilene Biz magazine since 2008, and co-authored, with Dr. John Davis, “Bridging
The Gap: Client Based Projects and Academic Applications in the Advertising
Curriculum” in the Coastal Business
Journal, Spring 2011.
Apart from the classroom, Chandler actively involves his
students in working with local business and nonprofit organizations to provide
hands-on education experience in advertising and marketing. His classes and
students work with Hendrick Home for Children, Connecting Caring Communities,
FCA, and other organizations to provide services and experience to the benefit
of all parties.
He is married to Ginger since 1978 with two children, Brittany
(26) and Logan (20) and one large, hairy dog, “Bucky”
The Chandlers have been members of Pioneer Drive
Baptist Church since 2000 where Chandler teaches an adult Bible class.
