The mission of Hardin-Simmons University is to be a community dedicated to providing excellence in education enlightened by Christian faith and values.

Founded in 1891 by a dedicated group of ministers, ranchers, and merchants, Hardin-Simmons University continues its commitment to developing the mind and nurturing the spiritual life of its students. Affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas since 1941, HSU provides an academically challenging undergraduate education based on a liberal arts foundation, and advances scholarly growth by offering specialized graduate and professional degree programs. 40 acres

HSU is known as the “40 Acres” because the university was originally established on 40 acres but has grown to over 209 acres including HSU’s softball and soccer fields and Six White Horse Barn off Grape Street just north of campus.
