Functions:

The Program Director is a position of delegated responsibility for providing leadership to achieve excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical activities of the program members. The Program Director reports directly to the Dean of the School of Nursing and is responsible for the activities of the program and faculty. The Program Director coordinates activities with the Dean to achieve the education and community service missions of the school as well as developing, establishing, and evaluating the School of Nursing Programs. Program Directors must have completed their doctorate. The specific role responsibilities of the Program Director are administration, teaching and recruiting.
 

Administration:

  • Plans for curriculum development and content integration across all courses within the program with the Dean, the faculty, the Learning Center Director, and the appropriate faculty committees.
  • Encourages and facilitates faculty teaching in order to enhance the teaching expertise within the program.
  • Works with the Dean to promote interest in developing community, interdivisional, and interdisciplinary academic programs.
  • Assists the Dean with recruitment of faculty and makes appointment recommendations to the Dean.
  • Provides for the orientation of new faculty within the program.
  • Assigns teaching and other duties within the program and maintains insofar as possible the equitable and mutually agreeable distribution of assignments.
  • Evaluates performance of faculty members in the program and makes recommendations to the Dean regarding retention, promotions, merit, tenure, dismissal or non-renewal.
  • Plans with the faculty and appropriate committees for student admission, progression, retention and advisement activities related to the program. Reports results to the Dean.
  • Makes recommendations to the Dean related to sabbatical leaves, leaves of absence, and continuing education needs of faculty.
  • Meets with the Dean, Learning Center Director, and appropriate committees to enhance the functioning of the total School of Nursing.
  • In conjunction with the Dean, encourages faculty practice activities to maintain clinical expertise.
  • Works with the Dean, the faculty, and community agencies to develop clinical practice sites related to the program goals and missions.
  • Works in conjunction with the Dean to promote community interest in developing interdivisional and inter-disciplinary clinical practice activities related to the program goals and missions.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Dean.
 
Qualifications:

Applicants must hold an earned BSN, a Master of Science in nursing and a Doctorate in Nursing preferred. Successful applicants will have a record of didactic and clinical teaching, current unencumbered Texas RN licensure and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student mentorship, participation in scholarly activities and service to school, university and the community. Specialty or advanced practice certification a plus. Review of applications will begin immediately and will remain active until filled.
