Application Procedure

If there is a vacant staff position at Hardin-Simmons, the procedures listed below are followed:

APPLICATION FORM:

Applicants for employment are requested to complete the HSU Application for Employment form available from the Human Resources Office.  You may download the PDF application or Microsoft Word Version.  Applications for Police/Security Officer positions must also complete a special application form.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Human Resources Office prepares a job announcement for vacant staff positions. The job announcement includes a position description and a list of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required for the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES WORKSHEET:

The KSAs are an essential part of the application. Applicants for a specific position are requested to write a paragraph on each KSA listed on page 2 of the job announcement describing how their qualifications relate to the position description. This is the opportunity for the applicant to explain how his/her background and skills match the job description. Therefore, applicants will need the job announcement to apply for a specific position. The job announcement can be downloaded/printed from the Human Resources web site for staff employment or obtained from the HSU Human Resources Office.

RESUMES:

Applicants frequently have resumes which have been found to be useful for evaluating qualifications.

JOB POSTINGS:

HSU staff vacancies are: (1)announced on campus in the employee newsletter, 40 Acre Facts; (2)posted on the Human Resources bulletin board, (3) posted on the HSU Human Resources web site, (4)or frequently placed in the Abilene Reporter News and other publications. Interested applicants may also call the Human Resources Office (325)670-1259/1507 for information concerning vacant positions.

INTERVIEWS:

After consulting with supervisors, the Human Resources Office arranges all interviews for staff employment. Unfortunately, we are unable to interview all applicants. Therefore, it is important that applicants represent themselves well on their applications and KSAs. The KSAs are a "paper interview" and are closely reviewed by the selecting supervisors.

BACKGROUND SCREEN:

HSU's liability insurance carrier requires the university to conduct a background check of every job applicant. In Texas, information about an applicant's race and gender is required in order to check the applicant's background. HSU does not use information about an applicant's race or gender in making any decision related to employment. Applicants for employment must agree to a background screen as part of the application process. Applicants for employment must agree to a background screen as part of the application process. Complete and return the DISCLOSURE FORM with your application.

EMAIL:

We frequently use email to contact applicants when we cannot reach them via phone. If you have an application pending with us, please check your email in the event we are trying to contact you. If you are applying for a position at Hardin-Simmons University, and you change your email address or your phone number, please notify the Human Resources Office via email.

NOTIFICATION:

Applicants not selected for employment after applying for a specific position will receive a letter from the Human Resources Office.

INQUIRIES:

Inquiries concerning the status of applications or possible interviews must be directed to the Human Resources Office. Please do not call or email a faculty or staff office for information.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS FOLLOWING NON-SELECTION:

If an applicant wants to be considered for other HSU positions after not being selected the first time, he/she should call the Human Resources Office.

UNSOLICITED APPLICATIONS:

Unsolicited applications are accepted and they may be reviewed against vacant positions. However, the best procedure to follow is to obtain a copy of the Job Announcement and comply with the instructions above.
