Clayton Collection

The Dr. John Powell Clayton Collection of religious studies and philosophy books are to be dedicated at Hardin-Simmons University. The late Dr. Clayton willed nearly 3,000 publications to his Alma Mater, and the material is a centerpiece of the new Duffy Theological Center in the Richardson Library. The dedication service is to occur on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at 2.p.m., in the Richardson Library at HSU.

A member of the HSU class of 1964 and recipient of the 1995 Distinguished Alumni Award, Dr. Clayton was a faculty member at Boston University at the time of his passing, and head of the department of religion and director of the graduate division of religious and theological studies until July 2003.  Previously, he was professor and head of the department of religious studies at the University of Lancaster In England.

Dr. Thomas V. Brisco, Dean of the Logsdon School of Theology notes, “The Collection significantly strengthens our library holdings in Christian theology, selected areas of philosophy and historical philosophy. The systematic collection of materials by an educator of such outstanding credentials stands to benefit the needs of our undergraduate and graduate students for years to come.”
