UNDERGRADUATE PLUS LOAN DESCRIPTION
The Federal PLUS Loan can be applied for by either parents or guardian of students attending Hardin-Simmons University at least half-time. Financial need is not a consideration — parents can apply regardless of family income or assets. Repayment of a PLUS Loan is accomplished according to the terms of the lender. Some PLUS Loans have repayment periods that begin shortly after the loan dollars are dispersed to the student's HSU financial account, while others have provisions that permit delayed repayment of the loan. PLUS Loans from some lenders have loan origination fees, while others do not. Be sure to read the various lender documents carefully before placing an application for a PLUS Loan. At HSU, the student's FAFSA must have been submitted to HSU, and the student must have enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours to be eligible for this loan. The amount to be borrowed can vary from a minimum of $250 (some lenders have a minimum of $200) to a maximum of the Cost of Attendance less any other financial aid.
WHO MAY APPLY FOR AN UNDERGRADUATE PLUS LOAN
Natural or adoptive parents of a dependent student or spouse of the natural or adoptive parent of a dependent student who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least half-time at a participating school, who have no adverse credit; and are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents.
GRADUATE PLUS LOAN DESCRIPTION
Graduate PLUS Loans (sometimes called GRAD PLUS loans) are identical in every respect to Undergraduate PLUS loans, except the Graduate PLUS loan does not require a cosigner. Just as with Undergraduate PLUS loans, the loan must be certified by HSU, and the borrower is eligible only after being properly enrolled in graduate school and after having successfully filed a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Eligible students include graduate students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least half-time at a participating school, who have no adverse credit; and are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents.
